Amanda Edwards qualified as an Active Birth Teacher with Janet Balaskas in 1997 and has been a YogaBirth teacher since 2001. Over the years she has attended many births as a doula and in the early days of water births she would hire out birthing pools and promote their use.
Her first daughter was born in the birthing pool at the then Garden Hospital with Yehudi Gordon in attendance. Her second daughter was another water birth but this time at home.
She qualified as an Acupuncturist, in 1992, and for many years worked at Viveka in London which was Yehudi Gordon’s clinic. She would go to the Birth Unit at St John and Elizabeth to do acupuncture if women in labour needed some help.
In 2006 she was ordained as a One Spirit minister and Happiness Counsellor. She loves to combine Acupuncture and Counselling to help women and men overcome issues during the time of conception, pregnancy and birth.
She enjoys exploring birth preparation with women and their partners and in helping the family to stay healthy and happy post birth. She feels there is no greater joy than coaching a couple through pregnancy and then meeting the beautiful little Being at the end.
She is based in East Sussex and will be running Pregnancy and Birth Preparation retreats in various locations once she has completed her book Birthing Together, a Spiritual and Energetic approach to Pregnancy and Birth.
At the moment she is not teaching yoga as she is concentrating on developing this aspect of her work.
