Postnatal Classes

Some YogaBirth teachers offer postnatal yoga, baby massage and postnatal group discussions after the birth of your baby.  As a new mother you will find great support in attending the post natal classes during the wonderful and challenging first months with your baby. These weekly classes are a time to exchange ideas and feel connected to other new mothers sharing similar experiences.

“The support I got from being around other new mums was amazing; the yoga was relaxing and I loved the talks we had from the homeopath and real nappy lady!”

Postnatal Yoga

You can attend YogaBirth postnatal classes from about six weeks after birth. Our postnatal yoga is safe and effective and is specifically designed for new mothers to be the first exercise you do in the immediate months after birth.

By attending each week, you will feel recharged and your core strength will be restored. Through our specialised yoga practice and breath awareness, you will learn how to release the normal tension that comes with feeding, carrying and comforting your baby. You will replenish your energy and begin to restore your core strength. You will also learn good postural habits and easy stretches and relaxing movements to do at home.

Postnatal classes include:

  • Yoga

  • Pelvic floor education

  • Abdominal & core strength

  • Postural awareness

  • Relaxation

  • Breath awareness

  • Discussion

  • Visiting experts in breast-feeding/nutrition/complementary therapies

Baby Massage

Baby Massage Many YogaBirth teachers include baby massage in their postnatal programme. Often, singing and baby yoga is also taught as part of the massage routine. Baby massage may either be included with the postnatal yoga or taught separately.

Communicating with your baby through loving touch and physical contact can be hugely beneficial to the parent-child relationship and to your baby’s development. Baby Massage is an easy and rewarding way to do this. It is practised sensitively whilst talking & playing with your baby.

  • Calms and relaxes baby and carer

  • Aids all aspects of development - emotional, physical and cognitive

  • Strengthens parent and baby bonding

Many YogaBirth teachers are members of the International Association of Infant Massage www.iaim.org.uk

Baby Massage qualifications are from: Peter Walker - see www.babymassageuk.org.uk for more information about baby massage.
